I decided to upload this one for sale now.*Note that it is nearly impossible to take a decent photo of a painting with red without a proper camera and proper light so I am extremely sorry for the poor quality. This following picture is more blurry but provides a view without a light reflection. FrançaisCeci est une nouvelle oeuvre qui excite l'idée d'une nouvelle série d'oeuvres. J'ais décidé de mettre celle-ci a vendre maintenant. * Notez qu'il est presque impossible de prendre une bonne photo d'un tableau avec du rouge sans un bon éclairage et appareil photo alors je suis extrêmement désolé pour la mauvaise qualité. La photo suivante est plus floue mais elle offre une vue sans réflexion de la lumière.

PAINT BY NUMBER - The Battle

The second Unique Corn Productions Group Exhibition which was entitled: "PAINT BY NUMBER" was up on the walls of Moncton's Galerie Salle Sans Sous during the month of August 2011.

The exhibition featured twelve Artists from the region who each created a work of Art with the theme "Paint By Number".

Initially the concept was that each Artist should get a Paint By Number kit and paint it following the patterns at the core but completing the piece in which ever way they wanted to. I got this idea from looking up an Artist online who had been part of a similar group show in the States, I thought it would be a good Unique Corn Idea.

After speaking with some of the Artists later, I decided to just have the Artists do what ever they wanted under the theme "Paint By Number". The Artists were no longer required to paint an actual Paint By Number kit(although welcomed to) but they had to do something with the "Paint By Number" theme.

The following images are the piece I did for the show.

This was a truly challenging painting! I started by following the numbers and as I went the final image burned into my head, so I changed my path, made the leafs autumn leafs and went to town. The biggest challenges were to avoid certain numbers and others not, to have to paint that cloudy sky around everything and painting those tiny soldier and skeleton faces(no bigger than a nickle).

In 2003 I applied for the Art Instruction Schools. They sent me a test to complete and submit. I got in the program, however, I got bored with it from the start and quit. I recently found the test sheet that they sent me. I was done with colour pencils and pen. Here it is!

The last Saturday in June was our second annual St George Street Block Party outside in the Aberdeen Park. Fantastic day! The bands The Wild Gypsies, Syntax Error and Rocking Bebbels played as I did some live painting.

La Fete de la Musique(The Day of Music) is something that started in France and is now international, especially in French speaking places. The day happens once a year. This year I co-hosted the night with Jean-Marc Dugas and ended the night finger painting on Something Delicious as they played their performance.

Highschool Art Class Presentation!

I was recently invited at the Highschool I went to to do presentations in the Art classes with Lucie St-Pierre who taught me a couple of Art classes in highschool. I reminded her that she had to take me outside the class almost every day because I smelled like Cannabis. I wonder how that could have happened.

It was interesting to be on the Teachers' side for once. Eating in their lunch room and all. I was very well greeting and the Principle as well as the vice-Principle both came in the class to look at my work. I presented three paintings, one was my self-portrait entitled "A Taste of Truth", another was my painting of Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation which was part of my "A Brief History of Liberty" series and the third was a more recent painting of my friend Lauren Michele Rossellas a Bumble Bee. I will upload pictures of these in a near future.

The classes went very well. I did two 11th and 12th grades as well as a 9th grade class. My cousin Bianca was in one of the classes and had a picture taken!

TBA Collective did a small trip to Fredericton in February where Something Delicious played while I painted in clownery. It was part of the FEELSGOOD Collective's Art & Music Fridays at the Capital Complex. The show went very well and we gave them quite the show! Other bands included St John's "Girls Would Kill" and "Shinjuku Mad". All pictures were taken by Jon Denis of FeelsGood.

For those outside of New-Brunswick who are unaware, Caraquet is a predominantly French Fishing Village in New-Brunswick Canada.The village is basically one long road and is literally the longest Village in the world. Caraquet is has a very good artistic vibe.

This is my favorite time of year. Blood red leafs floating in the wind with teary eyed trees.

November 7th will be the start of my exhibition at the Moncton City Hall Gallery.
That day is also the Moncton Studio Tour and so I was hired by the City Hall to do a Live Painting at the City Hall. I will also have some Artwork on display at La Teraz Gallery on Church Street and will possibly bring some works at the Tera Verde on Main Street. There is a slight possibility that I will have some of my work at the Wine Tasting Festival at the Moncton Coliseum, November 6 & 7. On November 7th I you can come visit me at the Moncton City Hall where I will be showing works and painting Live.

The show was a success. The place was filled and I was interviewed five times by television, news papers and radio. I will try and get some of these interviews up soon.

This show was a fund raiser for this year's MESSTIVAL. There was Live music by DJ Bones, Jonah Hache and Morse Code Alphabet. The event took place at the Aberdeen Cultural Center, on the first floor, Moncton, N.B.

The Artists painting were Janet Mlodecki, Pascal Leo Cormier(myself), Ian MacMillan(legasee) and Andrew Robson.

The Kingston Prize is an Annual Canadian Portrait Contest.
This is my first year entering the contest. I will receive news in June or July to see weather I made it in the top 30 and in October to see who came in first place. This year, the top 30 pieces will tour which can be very interesting!

It is obviously a little late to report on this since the event was on March 6th!
But here it is!

The event went fabulously well. The Manhattan Bar & Grill was jam packed!
In this event, I showed a new series entitled "Romantic Dog". I also showed a few older pieces here and there.

I haven't been posting in here for a while! It's hard to find the time!

I have been doing a lot of Onstage Live Paintings with bands recently. I thought I would share some pictures...

Those two pictures above are my very first Live Painting, this was with the band Something Delicious at the Paramount Lounge, Moncton, N.B.

Those two pictures are of my third Live Painting with Something Delicious. This is the only one I have now with SD but more will come. The painting is at the studio, almost done but not quite.

This was a Live Painting I did for the opening night of the revival of French Poetry book here called Revue Encrage. The event was entitled "Liberté Sur Parole" which means Freedom of Speech. The night went on as Poets read on stage while I painted. The evening followed by two musical acts by Polygamme and Nord/Sud.

A Painting About Hope

This painting was commissioned by a couple in St John.
They wanted red. I looked around, saw a lot of little pictures of Cardinal Birds and she told me how they came around their house in the summer...So the rest is history! I took it to the studio and went to town!

What I did for the background, I splashed the blue and actually painted individual clouds in the splashes...Yes, a pain but I did it and am very satisfied.

I thought I would share it.
This is the painting I was working on in my CBC interview for those who've seen it.

MY Interview on Radio Canda(CBC)

Greetings people,

On Tuesday, January 20th(2009), I was interviewed by Radio Canada Television(CBC) at my Studio. They interviewed me about my work and what I had lined up in the future, etc.
This came about when a friend's friend who works at the Station in the Arts and Culture asked me if I was up for doing something with them, I said sure! About a month later she called me and it was done the next day and aired the next day. These people are very last minute! It went really well. Of course, what you see is only about one third of the interview. The segment was to be two minutes and I was interviewed for about five minutes. The segment was aired on January 20th at around 6:20PM Atlantic time.
Since the interview was in French, I arranged it to have English subtitles, thanks to RJ Forbes who helped me edit out my part of the show and add the subtitles for me. Here is the video!

Great news people!

I applied to Agora Gallery, New York City a few months ago.
A few weeks later, on November 25th, 2008, I received the fallowing e-mail:

"Dear Pascal Cormier,

Thank you for your interest in Agora Gallery located at 530 West 25th Street in the center of the most significant art district of New York City.

I am pleased to inform you that your work qualifies for Agora Gallery representation. I feel that your paintings, particularly works that are 20 x 16 inches and larger, will resonate well in New York and with our international audience.

I would like to include your work in Beyond Borders: Exhibition of Fine Art from Canada scheduled for October 02, 2009 to which only a select number of artists are invited to participate.."

Unfortunately, I can not afford it nor do I have the time for it this year...
I explained that to them by e-mail and fortunately, they answered back with:

"Dear Pascal Cormier,

I understand that Agora Gallery representation may not be possible for you at this time.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at a time when you can accept representation.

I wish you all the best and continued success with your work.

Best Regards"

This is truly a blessing and an honor!

This painting was the first one painted for my new series in the works entitled HOPELESS LOVERS.

This is a sneak peek of the series. I am EXTREMELY tempted to post more of them but I will refrain myself from doing so and hope for it to be as much of a surprise as possible.

This one is temporarily titled "Hopeless Lovers" because it kicked off this very therapeutic series, its title may eventually change for there is a brother painting to it.

This is a collaborative work. Myself and my fellow artists:

George Blanchette, Dominik Robichaud and Maryse Arsenault joined in George's studio and we all went a little wild on this big sheet of masa paper George had set up on the wall. An hour or two later, this is what was delivered....

Pastels, pencils, charcoals, paints, flowers, black tape, brown tape, who knows?
Size: Unknown - Fairly big, four artists were working on it at the same time.

I call it DomPasGeoMar.

I hate the thought of snow right now.
As bright and beautiful as snow may be, it is cold and it pisses me off.

But here is the first painting of a coming series I did inspired by our last winter(winter 2007-2008), which was a pain, but it was gorgeous and very, very snowful, like when I was a kid and had no bills to pay and no obligations to attend to...

The series will be called "SNOW", and will consist mostly of snowy landscapes.
I am anxious to get to it when business comes less, it is a direction I very rarely attend to...

A treasure...

As I am wandering downtown late one friday night, I see a familiar face.

I say:"You're from Bathurst."(my home town).

She says yes. Long story short, she is down for a few days contemplating about moving here and has no place to stay, so she came over and slept on my couch.

All this to say that she(Natacha Haché who is now in Moncton and gives Yoga lessons for good price for anyone interested)introduced me to Cocorosie that night.

Cocorosie are two sisters, from what I understand, they were some how seperated young and found each other again later in life, one having become a Classically trained Opera singer and the other I ignore, but they ended up jamming in a bath tub and it turned out great obviously.

I found that do not like some of their seemingly more recent works as much as the earlier works but the first time I heard them, my heart nearly stopped.

Dear brothers and sisters,

My next Art Show will take place at the Café Maelstrom in Moncton(Corner of Botsford and Alma Streets). The opening will be on October 22nd 5PM-7PM.

The title of the series is HOPELESS LOVERS.

I have been in the studio on a daily basis crying my heart onto canvas.

I think the outcome will be great. Great therapy it is either way.

I will post the poster in a near futur with a preview of the works.

The opening was great! A lot of people showed up!
These pictures were taken by my father Leo Cormier and so he only took pictures of my stuff.
I will try and get pictures of Mathieu's display as well as Julie Cassey and the others.
I wish there were much more pictures of the night, I wanted to tell this to my father but got rather bombarded/nervous/wine. If anyone that was there has any pictures, let me know! :-)

The Confederation Center of Arts of Charlottetown, P.E.I did their annual Cute As A... contest where artists are selected and a button is made from their submitted artwork.

I was one of the selected artists this year and the art I submitted was "Skyful Bird", acrylic on panel and canvas(you'll understand this once you see the whole piece in a future near you), 10" x 12".

The piece in question is part of my series "Sad Songs For Lonely Birds" which will be shown at Gallery Sans Sous, Aberdeen Cultural Center in Moncton starting Friday, May 16th.

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend to the event which was last February due to a combination of illness and distance. I look forward to participate again next year and making it there this time! Pins were sent to me by mail and I proudly wear mine on my blazer! :-)

New-Brunswick Adoption Center Chair-ity

This post is long over due...

The New-Brunswick Adoption Center does a yearly charity auction with artists for the center.

This year's auction was in last November 2007 and was called Chair-ity where the artists painted on small chairs, pots and tables for the auction. There were some paintings on canvas as well.
I hear next year will be only canvas...We'll see.

Here is what I came up with:

The pot sold a sad $250.00 but the chair went for a very reasonable $400.00 considering that the highest anything went there was $700.00.

Looking forward to next year's auction.
